The Voice Under the Static

Ken found an old radio in his grandfather's room. It made a soft crackling sound, even when it was turned off. He decided to record it for a science project.

At 7:13, Ken put on his headphones. Through the static, he heard a brief message: “Please wait at Exit 4.” He tried to replay the words, but the recording sounded empty.

Ken asked Aya and Hana to listen with him. They heard only static at first. Then Hana moved a white umbrella away from the window, and the voice became clear for one second.

The three friends went to the station to check the message. A small boy was standing near Exit 4. He wanted to find his father, but he was afraid to walk alone.

They stayed with him and asked a station worker for help. The father arrived from the ticket gate. Ken realized that the voice had not predicted a mystery; it had helped him notice someone who needed help.

That evening, Ken tried to clean the radio. A blue light appeared under the dial. The static stopped, and a different voice said, “Thank you for listening.”
