英語の物語
最初は日本語を見ず、分からない部分だけ開いてみましょう。Aya, Ken, and Hana met at Central Station at 7:13. They planned to count every exit for a school project. The signs showed eight exits in a row.
When they arrived at Exit 4, a blue light blinked above a service hall. Ken said, “If we follow it, we may find another way out.”
They walked past a green door and heard a child count slowly. The voice stopped at eight, then whispered, “Nine.” Hana looked at the others, but no one laughed.
A guard told them the hall had been closed for years. He was supposed to check it, but his list had no number 9. He called the missing number a printing mistake.
Hana took a photo. In the picture, Exit 9 appeared beside the others. In real life, there was only a blank wall. When the blue light went out, the extra exit disappeared from the screen too.
They left before the station lights went out. Later, the photo showed a quiet platform and one white glove. None of them had been on that platform, but the clock in the picture said 7:13.

if は条件。「もし〜なら」と仮定し、結果を続けます。
be supposed to
〜することになっているHe was supposed to check it.彼はそれを点検することになっていました。
予定・役割・決まりを表します。過去形 was supposed to では、予定だったが実行されなかった含みも出ます。
go out
（明かりが）消えるWhen the blue light went out, the exit disappeared.青い光が消えると、出口も消えました。
go out は「外へ出る」だけでなく、電灯・火が消える意味でも使います。
