depend on は「〜次第である」。context は語の前後関係だけでなく、状況や背景も指します。

使い方・ニュアンス

suggest that S + 動詞の原形は提案を表す重要構文。suggest 人 to do とはしません。

言い換え表現

意味・ニュアンスが異なる表現

He suggested waiting.彼は待つことを提案しました。（誰が待つかは示さない形）

would rather A than B は「BするよりAしたい」。AとBには動詞の原形を置きます。

unless は if ... not に相当する「〜でない限り」。時を表す節と同様、未来でも現在形 rains を使います。

We’ll go hiking provided it doesn’t rain.雨が降らないという条件で、ハイキングへ行きます。

応用例文

使い方・ニュアンス

not necessarily は「必ずしも〜とは限らない」という部分否定。全否定の necessarily not とは異なります。
