英語の物語
最初は日本語を見ず、分からない部分だけ開いてみましょう。Every year, Class 5 took a photo on the school steps. Every year, Daiki stood in the second row, right next to his best friend Ren.
When the photos arrived this year, Ren looked closely. He counted the students twice. There were twenty-two students in his class, but only twenty-one appeared in the photo.
“Where's Daiki?” Ren asked his classmates. Everyone remembered Daiki clearly: his loud laugh, his blue backpack, the way he always arrived exactly one minute late.
The teacher checked last year's photo, and the year before that. Daiki was never in any of them, although everyone remembered standing beside him every single time.
That afternoon, Daiki laughed about it. “Maybe I just have a shy face,” he said. “Cameras don't like me.” Ren laughed too, but he could not stop thinking about it.
That evening, Ren found an old photo of his father's class, taken thirty years earlier. In the second row, a gap stood between two students, exactly the width of one more person. No one had ever asked why.

never は「一度も〜ない」。any と組み合わせると「どれも〜ない」という強い否定になります。
