英語の物語
最初は日本語を見ず、分からない部分だけ開いてみましょう。Nao wanted to thank her friend Emma. Emma helped her prepare for a speech contest. But when Nao opened her mouth, the word “thank you” disappeared.
On her way home, Nao found a tiny shop between two buildings. Colorful cards floated in the window. Some cards said WAS and WERE, but the old shopkeeper quickly turned them over. “We sell lost words,” she said.
Nao looked at the cards. Some said kind. Some said brave. One card was warm and bright. The shopkeeper smiled. “You need to choose with your heart.”
Nao touched the bright card. Suddenly, she remembered every moment Emma had helped her. The word came back, but it felt bigger than before.
The next day, Nao met Emma before class. She was nervous, but she said, “Thank you for always helping me.” Emma's face became soft and happy.
After school, Nao looked for the shop again. It was gone. Only one small card was on the ground. It said, “Words are free when you really mean them.” On the back, WAS and WERE had been crossed out in blue ink. Nao put the card in her notebook and hurried home.
